Position Overview
The Retail Coordinator position will join the SAM Business Services team to shape the museum's retail experience and deliver our retail strategy. They will oversee the selection and presentation of a carefully curated range of high-quality merchandise that supports local and national artists and designers, allowing visitors to take a piece of SAM home with them. Successful applicants will be ready to deliver an exciting, creative vision for our retail offerings.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-day store operations – Open and close the shop, ensuring the SAM Shop is presented in a professional manner, highlighting local artists work displays, clean, tidy and welcoming, oversee POS systems, cash handling and banking, and make sure everything runs smoothly during trading hours
Team leadership & rostering input - Lead and support retail staff and volunteers, assist with preparation of rosters, manage breaks, provide on-the-job training and coaching, handling basic performance matters that may arise from time to time
Customer service & visitor experience - Deliver high-quality, friendly service, answer questions about products and exhibitions, and being able to manage any potential difficult visitor interactions that may arise
Visual merchandising & product display - Develop and maintain displays that are visually appealing, on-brand, and aligned with current exhibitions, seasons and campaigns, including window and feature displays
Supplier & artist relationships - Liaise with wholesalers, publishers, local makers and artists (including consignment arrangements), negotiate pricing and terms, and ensure products reflect the museum's values and collection
Sales, KPIs & reporting - Monitor daily/weekly/monthly sales, average transaction value, conversion and other KPIs; prepare simple reports and make recommendations to improve revenue and margins
Our Ideal Candidate will have:
* Strong retail experience and the ability to meet budget
* Ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities
* Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience in working with customers of diverse range of ages and abilities.
* A degree of accuracy in money handling, credit card processing and daily reconciliations
* Confidence with visitor engagement
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Working with Childrens Check, Police Check and Right to Work in Australia
* Willingness to obtain First Aid, CPR and Chief Fire Warden Accreditation.
* An interest in the Arts
