Overview
Errington Special Education Centre caters for students with an intellectual disability and associated complex needs R-12. Approx seventy percent of our students live with Autism and 98% live with complex communication needs and many with complex behavioural/sensory needs. The student community is multicultural and diverse. All students have a One Plan.
Responsibilities
Teach students with an intellectual disability and complex needs using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Implement Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) strategies and teach the 'Big 6' literacy through the PreLit and InitiaLit programs. Adhere to established school policies, curriculum and pedagogical agreements. Work collaboratively and manage service providers, families and School Support Officers (SSOs) to achieve optimal outcomes. Participate in consultation and collaboration with DfE and non‐DfE service providers and agency personnel to support student wellbeing and access to the curriculum.
Qualifications
Have experience teaching students with an intellectual disability and complex needs. Be experienced in using AAC, implementing PBL strategies, and teaching the 'Big 6' literacy through PreLit and InitiaLit programs. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage service providers, families, and SSOs.
