We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator to join our team. This role is open to candidates based in Sydney, Melbourne, Wollongong, Canberra or Brisbane.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience with Microsoft SQL Server, both on-premise and in the Azure Cloud, along with a strong understanding of cloud-based database management. Experience with PostgreSQL and DB2 is beneficial but not essential. As a Senior DBA, you will be responsible for the administration, optimisation, and security of our clients’ database systems and ensuring that all database environments are secure, reliable, and scalable.
Responsibilities:
•Database Management: Administer, configure, and maintain databases, both on-premise and in Azure Cloud.
•Database Architecture and Design: Collaborate with Solution Architects to design, implement, and support scalable and secure database architectures.
•Incident and Problem Management: Troubleshoot and resolve incidents involving database systems and proactively address potential future issues.
•Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain database security best practices, including backups, recovery procedures, patching and audits.
•Performance Optimisation: Monitor database performance, identify areas for improvement, and take pre-emptive actions to ensure high availability and efficiency.
•Capacity Planning: Assist in database capacity planning and scalability for future growth.
•Collaboration: Liaise with software engineers, solution architects, and vendors to ensure database solutions meet client needs and adhere to security standards.
•Documentation: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for database systems, including configuration, procedures, and changes.
•Training and Development: Contribute to the development of team standards and provide mentoring and training to junior DBAs.
Skills, Education and Experience:
•A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
•10+ years of experience in Database Administration, with a strong focus on Microsoft SQL Server (on-premise and Azure).
•Experience with PostgreSQL and DB2 is valued.
•Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (including SQL Server Management Studio, T-SQL, and database design).
•Strong experience with Azure SQL and related cloud technologies (Azure Database for SQL, Azure Storage, etc.) is beneficial.
•Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell) for automation and database management.
•Solid understanding of high availability environments, disaster recovery, and backup systems.
•Experience with backup and recovery tools, such as Actifio or similar technologies.
•Experience with source control tools, such as git.
•Strong understanding of database security, including encryption, access controls, and compliance standards.
•Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
•Excellent communication skills to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
