About the school

The School of Nursing & Midwifery offers an extensive range of quality accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to engage students from learning opportunities in class through to professional workplace experience.

About the role

This role provides essential laboratory support to the School of Nursing and Midwifery by working closely with academic and professional staff. It involves preparing, setting up, and maintaining laboratory equipment and materials, while ensuring safety and operational efficiency. The position also supports troubleshooting, inventory management, and delivering technical assistance under the guidance of the Laboratory Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up, and pack down laboratory and teaching spaces, including classroom materials to support learning activities.
  • Coordinate and organise resources required for practical sessions, experiments, and demonstrations.
  • Provide routine technical support, advice, and basic equipment instruction to students and staff.
  • Assist with experiments, including preparing materials and equipment for practical teaching activities.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces, including routine servicing, stock control, and safe handling of hazardous substances.
  • Manage laboratory administration, records, risk assessments, and equipment loans, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Tertiary qualification at Certificate IV or diploma level with relevant work-related experience or completion of a post‐trades certificate and extensive relevant experience and on‐the‐job training or completion of a Certificate III with extensive relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Proven experience in a laboratory environment, including knowledge of laboratory methods, techniques, and safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, with the ability to support students and staff in practical activities.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and the ability to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and regulations.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and effectively engage stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands.
