We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Financial and Payroll Accountant who is passionate about delivering accurate, efficient and service-focused payroll and financial support within a dynamic school environment. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced setting, embraces continuous improvement and enjoys finding smarter, more efficient ways of working.
We are looking for someone who not only brings strong financial accounting and payroll capability, but who is also innovative, tech-savvy and motivated to improve systems, processes and user experience across the Finance function.
About the Role
Financial Accounting and Reporting
* Daily capturing of account transactions
* Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports
* Support month-end and year-end close processes
* Prepare and reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts
* Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
* Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cashflow reporting
* Support financial analysis and reporting for leadership teams
* Process and reconcile BAS and other statutory obligations
* Support banking, treasury and cash management functions
* Assist with audit preparation activities and maintain supporting financial documentation
* Monitor financial compliance and internal controls
* Maintain accurate financial records in line with legislative and compliance requirements
* Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and reporting processes
Payroll Operations
* Manage end-to-end payroll processing with accuracy and confidentiality
* Maintain employee payroll records, leave balances and superannuation
* Interpret relevant awards and employment conditions
* Process superannuation and payroll-related statutory obligations
* Respond to staff payroll enquiries in a professional and timely manner
* Support payroll compliance and reporting processes
* Assist with payroll reconciliations and payroll data integrity
Systems and Continuous Improvement
* Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and workflow improvements
* Contribute to finance system enhancements and automation initiatives
* Support finance projects focused on improving reporting capability and user experience
* Develop and improve financial reporting tools and dashboards
* Support finance data integrity and reporting accuracy across systems
Team and Service Contribution
* Build positive relationships across the College community
* Provide responsive and professional support to staff
* Contribute positively to a collaborative, service-oriented Finance Team
* Embrace innovation, adaptability and continuous improvement
* Support the mission, values and Christian ethos of the College
About You
You are a proactive and solutions-focused finance professional who enjoys working with systems, data and people. You demonstrate exceptional attention to detail while also identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls and create efficiencies.
You will bring:
* Bachelor of Business, Commerce, Accounting or similar
* CA or CPA qualification highly regarded
* Experience in financial accounting, payroll and finance administration
* Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, accounting principles and financial processes
* Experience using Xero and Microsoft Excel, with Employment Hero and TASS highly regarded
* Demonstrated experience in reconciliations, reporting and compliance activities
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
* A high level of accuracy, organisation and accountability
* Strong technology capability and confidence learning new systems
* A growth mindset and openness to innovation and change
* The initiative to identify and implement improvements
* An alignment with the Christian values and ethos of the College
Experience within an education or not-for-profit environment will be highly regarded.
