About the role Mater Young Adult Health Centre at Mater Hospital South Brisbane is seeking a passionate Youth Substance Worker to join the Clarence Street team on a permanent full-time basis. Working within Area 40 (our substance-free day program space) you’ll support young people aged 13–25 years who are experiencing harms related to alcohol and other drug use. Through recreational, social, creative and wellbeing activities, alongside brief interventions, advocacy and case management support, you’ll help young people build resilience, reduce harm and work towards positive outcomes. Young people accessing the service may also be experiencing challenges including mental health concerns, housing instability and relationship difficulties, making this a rewarding opportunity to provide holistic, strengths-based support. Clarence Street forms part of Mater Young Adult Health Centre and delivers a range of specialised services supporting young people and families impacted by substance use. Salary range: $38.61 - $52.06 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 access to many staff benefits! What you’ll be doing Working within Area 40, you’ll support young people through connection, practical support and evidence-based interventions. No two days will look the same. You’ll facilitate recreational, social, creative and wellbeing activities while providing brief alcohol and other drug interventions, advocacy and individual support to help young people reduce harm and build positive futures. Your responsibilities will include: Delivering youth alcohol and other drug interventions including intake, brief intervention and case management support Supporting a small caseload of young people through structured and semi-structured programs focused on reducing alcohol and other drug-related harms Providing counselling, advocacy and practical support using harm minimisation, relapse prevention and strengths-based approaches Facilitating recreational, social, music, creative and wellbeing activities within the Area 40 day program Supporting young people to access services relating to health, education, employment, housing, safety and social connection Facilitating group programs that strengthen resilience and promote positive outcomes Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide safe and responsive care Supporting day-to-day operations of the program and contributing to service development and continuous improvement Maintaining timely documentation, case notes and reporting standards Providing support and guidance to students and support workers where required About you You’re passionate about supporting young people and creating safe, supportive spaces that empower positive change. To be successful in this role, you will have: Essential: Diploma qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Youth Work, Community Services or a related Human Services discipline Experience supporting young people impacted by alcohol and other drug-related challenges Knowledge of contemporary youth alcohol and other drug approaches Strong communication, case management and relationship-building skills Ability to manage complex situations and work collaboratively Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence Current First Aid certification Why join us?
