We are looking for an analytical and thorough Test Engineer who is a proactive problem solver and a strong communicator. This role goes beyond finding defects; it is about thinking like a customer and ensuring our solutions deliver real impact. You'll bridge engineering and product outcomes to drive product quality, usability and performance.
Based in Melbourne, you will be a key part of the Research & Development team that designs the wearable tracking hardware Catapult is known for. You will work with cutting edge technology across wearable and stadium infrastructure products for the elite sports industry. Reporting to the Principal Test Engineer / Team Lead, the primary responsibilities are to create test procedures, develop automated test harnesses, detect and report issues, and collaborate with development engineers to resolve issues.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Develop frameworks, test harnesses and scripts to test firmware algorithms, Edge Computing applications interfacing Catapult wearables with the cloud, and IoT backends.
* Develop and implement test strategies, plans, and cases for new and existing features; review and contribute to those developed by colleagues.
* Write testing infrastructure/tools/automation components that are reliable, well documented and maintainable.
* Adopt test automation frameworks and aggressively automate test processes.
* Promote innovation, drive best practice and contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes and methodologies.
* Monitor and report on testing progress, defect trends, and overall quality metrics.
* Analyse and interpret logging and diagnostics; find, isolate and report issues using bug tracking software; work with development engineers to resolve issues.
* Collaborate with tech leads, product managers and stakeholders to align on priorities, tradeoffs and risk, and influence product design to improve testability and quality from the start.
* Contribute to team engineering processes, design meetings and code reviews to continuously improve quality.
* Build and maintain relationships with test engineering peers across firmware and software teams to coordinate test frameworks and end-to-end user workflows.
* Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging technologies in software and firmware testing.
* Participate in a test engineering "chapter" to share best practices across the business.
* Occasionally provide technical support to customers (which may be on weekends or after hours).
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
* Formal qualifications in electronics or software engineering.
* At least 3 years of firmware testing experience.
* At least 2 years of Python programming experience.
* Demonstrated experience with IoT technologies (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
* Knowledge of Linux operating systems.
* Knowledge of wireless technologies (BLE, Wi‑Fi, UWB).
* Experience with Git code management.
* Experience with test automation frameworks and tools.
* Proficiency in writing clear, concise test plans and test cases.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in working with users, cross-functional teams and product management.
* Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.

* Proactive, detail-oriented problem solving and a willingness to contribute innovative ideas.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal specifications.
* A mindset that connects testing to customer value and product quality, athlete performance and end-user trust.
* Experience with electronics testing equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, multimeters) is highly desired.
* Experience with TestRail and Atlassian tooling is highly desired.
* Experience with Rust or willingness to learn it is desirable.
