About the Safe Spaces Program
The Safe Spaces Program provides a secure and welcoming environment for children and young people who may be at risk or without safe accommodation during the night. The program aims to reduce harm, promote wellbeing, and connect children with appropriate services and supports.
Position Duties
* Provide day, night and weekend supervision and support to children accessing Hedland House
* Create a calm, safe, and nurturing environment
* Respond to crisis situations with sensitivity and professionalism
* Engage with children in a trauma-informed and culturally respectful manner
* Maintain accurate records and incident reports
* Liaise with local services, families, and emergency contacts as needed
* Work collaboratively with Hedland Aboriginal Strong Leaders (HASL) and Hedland Aboriginal Emerging Leaders (HEAL)
* Other duties as appropriate to role and skill levels
Desirable Experience and Skills
* Strong understanding and proven ability to engage with and work within the local Aboriginal community
* Experience working with children or young people, especially in crisis or residential settings
* Understanding of trauma-informed care and child protection principles
* High-level interpersonal and communication skills
* Experience supporting individuals with complex needs (e.g., mental health, substance use, justice system involvement)
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Data entry, time management, and reporting skills
* Understanding of professional boundaries including privacy, confidentiality, and respect in the workplace
Qualification and Requirements
* Experience working in a team environment
* Proficient in computer literacy
* Right to work in Australia
* Unrestricted & current C class driver's licence
* National (or Federal) Police Certificate no more than 6 months old
* Working with Children Check (WA)
* First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
