About The Role
The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist will work as part of the Quality Systems Team Portfolio, scoping CDI workflows into the Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) and Computer Assisted Coding. Primarily working with the John Hunter Hospital clinical and coding teams, project supported by the District Coding Manager for specific coding advice. In a typical week you will engage with clinical staff and coders, offer expert guidance, review documentation practices, and provide actionable feedback. You will bridge the gap between documentation and clinical coding, ensuring compliance and driving improvements across the system. The initial focus will be on Hospital Acquired Complications at John Hunter Hospital while also implementing CDI practices into SDPR workflows.
Qualifications
* Highly motivated and a systems thinker.
* Good communicator who can nurture positive relationships with many and varied services and teams.
* Clinical Coding experience in an acute care environment and/or formal qualifications in Clinical Coding with demonstrated knowledge across a broad range of specialties.
* Knowledge of documentation requirements and their relevance to clinical coding.
* Proficiency in interpreting clinical data and coding to ensure accurate reflection of patient care.
* Strong attention to detail to detect inconsistencies in documentation and coding.
* Exceptional verbal skills to engage effectively with clinicians and coders.
* Exceptional written communication for the dissemination of program outcomes.
* Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex problems, develop practical solutions, and implement them effectively.
* Team player who works well in multidisciplinary environments, capable of collaborating across departments (clinical teams, coders, finance, etc.).
* Ability to influence and support clinicians in improving their documentation practices.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
* Eager to innovate and improve processes with a results-oriented approach.
