Road Maintenance Officer
Hume City Council| Monday to Friday | 6:30am-3:30pm
About the Role
We're seeking a proactive and experienced Road Maintenance Officer to join Hume City Council's dedicated Infrastructure Maintenance team. You'll play a vital role in keeping Hume's road networks safe, clean, and structurally sound for our growing community.
This is a hands‑on role focused on asphalt and road signage repairs, general road infrastructure maintenance, and operation of heavy vehicles and plant. If you're passionate about outdoor work, community safety, and making a visible impact — this is your opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out asphalt patching, road repairs, and routine signage maintenance
* Drive and operate Council vehicles and road maintenance plant (e.g. backhoes, excavators, etc.)
* Conduct regular inspections and perform preventative maintenance on roads, drainage, signage, and bridges
* Erect and maintain safety signage, barriers, and traffic control measures according to Victorian standards
* Maintain daily work records, contribute to asset condition reporting, and assist in program development
What You'll Need
* White Card (Construction Induction Card)
* Relevant experience in road maintenance
* Current Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence and General Driver's Licence
* Sound knowledge of municipal road maintenance standards and OH&S practices
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team‑focused attitude
* Ability to plan and prioritise daily tasks, including working independently
* Willingness to participate in after‑hours on‑call duties when required
Desirable (not essential):
* Demonstrated experience operating plant such as graders, backhoes, and loaders
* Certificate III in Civil Construction
* Competency certificates for plant operation
