Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for community-led change? The Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC) is seeking a dynamic Deputy CEO to join our leadership team. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of one of the Fraser Coast’s most respected community organisations.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll support both the strategic and operational leadership of HBNC—ensuring excellence across service delivery, staff development, stakeholder engagement, and program innovation. You will manage four of HBNC’s Service Streams : Legal; Client Support; Family, Children and Youth; and Aged & Inclusion.
This is a full-time, 18-month contract position based at our vibrant Community Centre in Hervey Bay. Occasional after-hours work is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic and operational plans.
Supervise and support managers and coordinators, fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
Ensure high-quality service delivery across multiple programs, aligned with HBNC’s mission and community needs.
Drive compliance, continuous improvement, and innovation in line with governance and funding requirements.
Represent the CEO in key meetings and strengthen relationships with community, government, and funding stakeholders.
Contribute to the organisation’s financial planning, grant applications, and long-term sustainability.
Oversee human resources, including recruitment, inductions, performance management, and policy updates.
ABOUT YOU
We’re looking for a collaborative and experienced leader who is ready to make a lasting impact. You’ll bring :
Tertiary qualifications in human services or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated success in senior leadership within the non-profit or community sector.
Strong capabilities in managing programs, people, budgets, risk, and compliance.
Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and navigate complex service environments.
Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal.
Deep understanding of community development principles and creative responses to social challenges.
Current driver’s licence and ability to obtain relevant checks (police and working with children).
Selection Criteria
1. Leadership and Strategic Capability
Demonstrated experience in senior leadership roles within the non-profit or community sector, with a proven ability to lead diverse teams, implement strategic and operational plans, and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
2. Program and Operations Management
Extensive experience in managing the delivery of community programs, including monitoring outcomes, evaluating service quality, integrating services across multiple streams, and ensuring alignment with organisational goals and funding requirements.
3. Governance, Risk and Compliance
Demonstrated understanding of organisational governance, risk management, and compliance with legal and ethical obligations. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and review policies and procedures, and contribute to reporting and accountability processes.
4. Human Resource and People Management
Ability to effectively supervise, develop, and support managers and team leaders, including overseeing HR functions such as recruitment, performance management, complaint resolution, and WHS compliance.
