FRONT OF HOUSE ATTENDANT

Casual Seasonal Contract Position

Must be available on Monday 4th May for an in person training day.

Hourly Rate: $32.88 per hour (inclusive of casual loading), plus superannuation and penalty rates when applicable.

Role Overview

Front of House Attendants at Carriageworks are the welcoming face of one of Sydney's most dynamic cultural precincts. Working as part of a collaborative and customer-focused team, you'll help create memorable experiences for the thousands of visitors who come through our doors each week.

Supporting our Front of House Managers and working closely with the Visitor Experience Manager, you will play a key role in delivering a diverse and exciting program of events, ensuring every guest feels welcomed, informed and supported throughout their visit.

As part of the Front of House team, you'll be involved in some of Sydney's most vibrant and well-known events, from the popular Carriageworks Farmers Market to large-scale trade shows, high-capacity music events, and major partner festivals. No two shifts are the same, making this an ideal role for people who enjoy working in fast‐paced, energetic environments and being part of memorable live experiences.

Working across such a wide range of events, you may be required to work in environments such as:

* Large‐scale, high‐energy events with significant crowd volumes, 5,000 – 10,000 capacity events.
* Events which involve extended periods standing, working in loud environments, and working late nights depending on requirements.
* Fast‐paced situations requiring quick judgment and calm responses.
* Quiet or contemplative events where a discreet, low‐profile presence is required.
* Indoor and outdoor work across the precinct, including varying weather conditions, with appropriate planning, safety measures and protective provisions in place.

* Self‐motivated and comfortable working independently, taking initiative to support both the team and our visitors.
* Flexible approach to working hours, including the capacity to work evenings, weekends and earlier and later finishes.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide high‐quality customer service to all Carriageworks visitors and assist the Front of House Manager in the delivery of any given event, performance or function at Carriageworks.
* Ushering duties, including checking and scanning tickets, directing guests to their seats, and distributing programs and other duties as necessary.
* Assist with crowd control by wayfinding and directing visitors and proactively anticipating their needs.
* Aid patrons with access needs, physical or hidden disabilities, when required.
* Ensuring that facilities, public and event areas are maintained to presentation standards by keeping them neat and organised, and reporting any issues promptly and efficiently to the maintenance and cleaning team.
* Effectively receive visitor feedback, compliments, and complaints – actively escalating and informing FOH Manager of any issues.
* Follow WHS procedures and policies to ensure the safety and security of the event. Actively escalating and informing the FOH Manager when necessary.
* Follow emergency procedures and act as Area Wardens or Wardens during a venue evacuation or other emergency venue procedures.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

* Previous experience working in a fast‐paced, customer‐facing or live event environment.
* Interest, knowledge and/or experience within the creative events industry is highly regarded.
* Possess a valid Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain one.
* Be well‐versed in events and activities across the precinct to be able to provide accurate information and assistance to visitors.
* Greet guests promptly and warmly, creating a positive first impression.
* Maintain calm authority and clear communication while managing large or complex crowds, even during high‐pressure or time‐sensitive situations.
* Accurately scan tickets and perform efficient ushering techniques to support on‐time event starts.
* Remain vigilant, proactive and alert to possible safety issues, and escalate promptly to the Front of House Manager.
