Our clients are a family-owned progressive farming business with their main historically significant coastal property running from Scamander to Four Mile Creek on the East Coast of Tasmania. Covering 5,500 acres and running 5,000 dual purpose Merinos and 500 top line Angus breeders along with 200 ha of centre pivot irrigation. They require someone to manage and develop the farm to allow for an intensive rotational grazing system to produce high quality wool, cattle, and crops.
With further improvement required across less productive and forested areas, along with the inclusion of a first class Agri-tourism development, the properties' picturesque coastal frontage makes this a highly attractive position.
The owners have a long-term focus, with the aim to grow a sustainable and profitable grazing enterprise and Agri-tourism operation that delivers enduring value. They are seeking a manager who will use innovation, technology, and data to improve and track performance in an intensive mixed farming space.
The position will require the successful applicant to undertake all areas of property management, livestock husbandry and crop and pasture management. You will have a thorough understanding of Merino breeding and management with an emphasis on fine wool, as well as cattle management, feeding regimes, grazing techniques and crop production to maximise production.
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and innovative Farm Manager to drive the operation in a new position you can make your own. You will be required to lead and mentor a team in running the daily operations, plus be able to adequately plan, budget and report on performance. Reporting to, and working with the owner, you will be a key person within the senior management team to develop and implement planning of operations allowing for scaling up livestock numbers, systems, and strategies for the business and deliver the desired outcomes for the entire operation.
- Have at least 5 years practical experience managing intensively grazed sheep and cattle, ideally with fine wool Merinos, rotational grazing, pivot irrigation and/or fodder production experience.
- Have experience in efficient planning and reporting.
- Have a proven track record of delivering efficient, cost-effective outcomes
- Be able to coordinate contractors for outsourced activities
- Hold or be prepared to obtain appropriate licences for vehicles and machinery, First Aid Certificate, Chemical Handling certificate.
