**Agency Purpose**

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

**The Team**

You will join a energetic, high performing team in a quick-paced, changing and challenging environment. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Employee Relations and Performance, you will assist in the development and maintenance of the AEC's Enterprise Agreement, employment related Determinations and instruments, and for providing trusted, complex and sensitive advice on employment relations, conduct and performance matters. The team also undertakes Secretariat functions for the AEC National Consultative Forum.

**The Opportunity**

The AEC is seeking dynamic, collaborative, self-motivated and results driven individuals at an APS 5 level to help us achieve the delivery of day-to-day activities within the Employee Relations and Performance team.

Utilising your expertise and knowledge in HR and employee relations fields, you will be required to engage in problem solving, ensuring compliance with legislative frameworks, developing Individual Flexibility Agreement Instruments, business cases and management of the broader framework.

Developing, reviewing and updating employment related policies, procedures, delegations and checklists and providing advice to business areas to minimise risk and enhance capability.

During an election, you will also need to be responsive and show professional resilience and personal drive to deal with the high demand and volume of work generated.

Duties include but are not limited to:

- Assisting in the administration of processes for new industrial strategies e.g., Enterprise Agreements and/or s24(1) Determinations.
- Managing the ER inbox by responding to simple and complex HR queries with accurate advice, in a timely manner and ensuring research is undertaken to provide advice based on evidence.
- Supporting the management and upkeep of HR policy, practices and procedures.
- Undertaking work that is complex and sensitive in nature, using discretion and sound judgement when providing advice on complex HR matters and handling personal information under limited direction.
- Secretariat responsibilities for the AEC National Consultative Forum including organising agendas, calendar invitations and minute taking.
- Supporting the broader Employee Relations and Wellbeing team during an electoral event.

To excel you'll have:

- Tertiary qualifications in HR and/or experience in an ER/IR employment related role including but not limited to assisting in the management of employment related industrial instruments and the formulation of employment related policies and procedures.
- The ability to support ad-hoc projects within the team and manage small aspects of the project, to enhance efficiency, productivity, and effectiveness of HR functions within the organisation. Experience in Enterprise Bargaining is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated resilience including remaining positive, persisting, and focusing on achieving results despite setbacks while working under pressure.
- Proficient written communication skills, including the ability to arrange information and evidence in a logical manner, summarise key details, and tailor messages for a variety of audiences.

**Eligibility**
- AEC employees must be Australian citizens.
- Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
- Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain a character clearance.
- Applicants are required to consent to, undergo, obtain and maintain the Baseline security clearance required for this role.
