Primary objective
To provide clinical leadership and culturally safe medical services to the Alice Springs Correctional Centre.
Context statement
Sound general practice skills essential. Experience or qualifications in public health, Indigenous health or primary health care
program delivery desirable. No after hours or regular on-call requirements.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. As a member of a multidisciplinary primary health care team, provide culturally safe medical services to Alice Springs
Correctional Centre under the Primary Health Care Branch of Central Australia Health Service.
2. Participate in collection and maintenance of computerised health information.
3. Support and participate in the supervision, education and training of General Practice registrars and other primary health care
providers including remote area nurses and Aboriginal health workers.
4. Provide senior clinical leadership and assist the Director of Medical Services in management, education, policy development, or
in quality and safety or other project initiatives.
5. Develop and maintain the knowledge and skills for the role including participation in professional development activities.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services in the workplace.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Medical Practitioner eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
2. Fellowship or equivalent of RACGP / ACRRM / AFPHM.
3. Relevant postgraduate experience in primary health care settings, including GP and rural/ remote Indigenous healthcare.
4. One/ more advanced skill areas to a senior level of expertise in conjunction with extensive relevant experience.
5. Good written and oral communication skills, including Information Technology skills and the ability to liaise with other agencies,
both government and non-government.
6. Experience in providing support and delivering educational and training activities to health care staff.
7. Ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a culturally sensitive manner.
8. Willingness to undertake cross cultural training and ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
