The Assistant Manager will oversee daily operations of a unit, providing support to the Manager and contributing to sentence management functions as required.
This role is responsible for quality assurance and governance oversight of tasks completed to ensure compliance with legislation, mandated timeframes, agency directives, procedures and policies for the lawful detention of prisoners, appropriate prisoner security classification and placement in accordance with their delegated authority.
The Assistant Manager is also responsible for supervising staff, supporting staff performance, training and development, analysing trends and workloads to ensure adequate resource allocation within teams. This position reports directly to the Manager, Sentence Management services.
Requirements
* Experience and skills for supervising and leading a team, including human resource management processes.
* Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, respond to new events and escalate issues appropriately.
* Criminal justice experience, interpreting and applying legislation, policy and practice directives in an operational environment is preferred or alternatively possess similar work experience demonstrating previous exposure to governed systems and ability to rapidly acquire necessary knowledge.
* Maintain governance and oversight systems using information to support service delivery and performance, maintaining effective quality assurance processes.
* Strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail in preparation and completion of complex reports for internal and external stakeholders; and
* Proven skills in staff engagement, coaching, mentoring and staff development, conducting difficult conversations, negotiating resolutions and reporting issues and actions.
