Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our commercial flooring team. The primary focus of this role is to produce highly accurate material take-offs and competitive tender submissions. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of commercial flooring products and substrate preparation. While the core of the role is estimation, candidates with experience in Contract Administration will be highly regarded to provide additional support to our Project Management team.
Core Responsibilities
* Quantity Surveying: Perform digital take-offs from architectural drawings, ensuring all floor finishes, transitions, and wall bases are accounted for.
* Tender Preparation: Interpret complex project specifications and "Scope of Works" to prepare formal, professional tender submissions.
* Cost Estimating: Calculate labour, material, and specialised equipment costs (e.g., floor grinding, moisture barriers, and self-levelling).
* Supplier Relations: Liaise with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and stay informed on the latest product innovations and lead times.
* PM Support: Provide technical handovers to the Project Management team once contracts are awarded to ensure a seamless transition from bid to build.
Experience & Requirements
* Commercial Flooring Expertise: Proven experience estimating for commercial projects (e.g., Office fit-outs, Healthcare, Education, or Retail).
* Technical Literacy: Proficiency in flooring estimation software (e.g., MeasureSquare).
* Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of sub-floor preparation requirements and Australian/Industry Standards.
* Attention to Detail: An uncompromising eye for detail to ensure zero-error submissions.
Desirable Factors (Highly Regarded)
Beyond the core estimating duties, we are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
* Contract Administration Experience: Previous experience managing progress claims, variations, and RFI (Request for Information) processes.
* Project Documentation: Ability to assist PMs with O&M manuals, safety data sheets (SDS), and warranty documentation.
* Negotiation Skills: Experience in reviewing head contract clauses and negotiating sub-contract terms.
Key Competencies
* Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tender deadlines simultaneously.
* Communication: Professional verbal and written communication skills for builder and architect liaison.
* Problem Solving: Ability to identify potential site issues or specification gaps during the tender phase and offer proactive solutions.
