Work collaboratively within the Anatomical Pathology team to deliver a high-quality, comprehensive histology service. In this role, you will apply a broad range of routine and specialised histological techniques to both surgical and autopsy specimens, enabling the accurate detection of pathological features critical for diagnosis. You will exercise independent scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens, ensuring the verification and validation of results, and provide informed advice to clinical teams where required.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
* Demonstrated ability in a range of histological applications from routine tissue management through to the application of advanced methods and technologies including specimen dissection, embedding, microtomy, routine special stains, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence and urgent frozen section protocols.
* Demonstrated high levels of attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks within a histology laboratory
* Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation / certification.
* Proven willingness and ability to actively participate in and contribute to continuing education and other professional development activities.
* Proven ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment to achieve the goals of the work unit including the meeting of critical deadlines.
* Availability to participate in a roster system across the operating hours of the department.
