This is a permanent part-time (0.5FTE) position commencing Term 4, 2025

Canning College has been preparing senior secondary students to achieve entry into Australia’s leading universities since 1982. As a specialist international education institution, it has established a strong reputation for providing local and overseas students with the personal and academic development and pathways required to succeed in tertiary studies. College staff are experienced in providing care, support and academic guidance to all students to help them prepare better for the rigours of tertiary studies.

The Canning College Library Learning Centre is central to teaching and learning at the college. It houses comfortable spaces for study, research, collaboration, and tutoring. Technology equipped spaces, computer labs, a centre for intensive English and a careers information centre are incorporated into the facility.

The Role

Canning College is seeking to appoint a Library Officer with the passion, drive and experience to provide our international and local students with exceptional library services.

The library officer creates and maintains a vibrant, engaging and welcoming resource centre and study space for students. The officer supervises the day-to-day operations of the library and ensures the provision of reference, information, and associated services to teaching staff and students. As part of the role, the library officer prepares and monitors the library budget and makes recommendations for recent resources. They administer library systems, ensuring library records are up to date and resources are maintained and processed, so they are always accessible and available to students and staff.

The successful applicant should be proactive in creating an environment that encourages students into the library. They will ideally demonstrate the experience and ability to engage with students to promote research skills and use of library equipment. They should work consultatively with teachers to ensure the timely provision of quality resources to support Canning College’s teaching and learning programs.

The successful applicant should display strong written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment. Strong computer
skills across a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spread sheets and word processing are highly regarded.

- Demonstrated experience in the use of computers and a range of application software packages, particularly library databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Demonstrated experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
