About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join Professor Warwick Bowen's laboratory within the School of Mathematics and Physics and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology (QUBIC). In this role, you will conduct world-leading research applying quantum and precision sensing tools to explore protein dynamics and function. Your work will focus on the use of photonic single protein sensors to observe, control and understand protein behaviour, advancing knowledge at the interface of quantum science and the life sciences.

As a Level B Research Fellow, you will build your research profile to achieve national recognition in your discipline, contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, and engage in service and engagement activities that support the School and Centre. This position offers the chance to be part of a multidisciplinary team driving innovation in quantum biotechnology, with access to cutting-edge facilities and the opportunity to make a significant impact on both fundamental science and emerging applications

Key responsibilities will include:

1. Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

2. Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

* Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

* Completion of a PhD in the discipline area, and particularly in the biological sciences.

* A growing profile in research in the discipline area, applying quantum optomechanics techniques into precision measurement and control of proteins.

* A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

* Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

* A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

* Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check.
