Overview
Sandfire is an Australian mining and exploration company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: SFR). We are seeking a Head of Sustainability to lead Sandfire’s Sustainability Strategy, management system, reporting requirements and sustainability initiatives across global assets and corporate functions. The role reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer and will lead a small team with accountability across Environment, Climate Change, Human Rights and Social Performance, and Heritage and Community Engagement.
Responsibilities
- Strategic oversight of the global sustainability function, including developing and implementing strategic plans with goals and objectives, targets and actions that align with Sandfire’s corporate objectives, strategy, mission and values.
- Maintain policies, standards and procedures, supporting guidance and forms to align with Sandfire’s Sustainability Strategy, mission and values.
- Develop and execute a global Sustainability Strategy and initiatives that support the company’s business strategy, objectives and vision.
- Coach, mentor and manage a team of direct reports, including supporting their development, monitoring performance and providing guidance as required.
- Establish and execute an assurance process for sustainability-related policies, standards and procedures.
- Identify and manage Sandfire’s sustainability risks.
- Manage the sustainability due diligence process for acquisitions, mergers, partnerships and contracts.
- Oversee internal and external sustainability reporting requirements, including annual reporting of sustainability and up-to-date slavery performance.
- Develop external communications regarding the company’s sustainability strategy, initiatives and progress; respond to external sustainability-related queries.
- Benchmark against and align with external frameworks and leading practice where appropriate.
- Provide advice to and support the Chief Sustainability Officer in advising the Executive and Board on sustainability matters, risk and international standards.
- Provide additional support as required.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in environment or sustainability within the mining industry, with operational experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of managerial level experience.
- Strong knowledge of global sustainability legislation and leading practice, including policy frameworks and reporting.
- Experience working with Executive teams and Boards to provide expert advice.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate and take initiative.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior management across different business units and operations sites.
