About the Role
This is a hands-on role suited for experienced 2x Bridge Carpenters looking to contribute to regional infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects. Based at the Waratah Depot, the role focuses heavily on bridge construction and maintenance works, requiring regular travel and Living Away From Home (approximately 60% of the year). The successful candidate will work on a rotating 4-day week, delivering formwork and concrete tasks within a broader civil works team.
- Salary: $46.07/hour + super
- Work schedule: 4 x 9.5hr days per week (no RDO)
- Contract length: 3 months, with high potential for extension depending on the project
- Tickets: White Card, Cert 3 in Carpentry, Workers on Foot, Working at Heights, Traffic Control, High-Risk Work Licence
- Police Check (can commence before clearance; subject to termination if adverse findings arise)
- Camping Away: Required during bridge construction season
- Accommodation & LAFHA: Provided while away from the depot (60% of the year)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform carpentry tasks for bridge maintenance and new construction projects
- Build, install, and dismantle formwork for concrete structures
- Pour and finish concrete to engineering specifications
- Read and interpret technical drawings and plans
- Maintain safe work environments in accordance with WHS standards
- Assist with site setup, material handling, and clean-up
- Travel to regional work sites and participate in overnight stays as required
- Operate within traffic-controlled environments as needed
- Use hand and power tools in accordance with safety guidelines
- Collaborate with site supervisors, engineers, and other trades
- Complete daily work documentation and reporting
- Travel and camp away when required during bridge construction seasons
About You
- Certificate III in Carpentry (mandatory)
- Demonstrated experience in bridge maintenance or construction
- Strong skills in formwork and concrete construction
- Physically fit and able to undertake manual tasks in outdoor environments
- Sound understanding of WHS, maintenance procedures and roadwork safety standards
- Willingness to work away from home and travel regionally for extended periods
- Strong team collaboration and self-management skills
- Full PPE is required to ensure safety
- Must have full Australian working rights – Citizen, PR, or valid long-term visa holders only
- A satisfactory police check is required (can commence before clearance, subject to termination if adverse findings arise)
