About the Role
A federal government agency is seeking an experienced EL1 Assistant Director, Strategic Communications to provide strategic and practical communications leadership to a specialist division managing complex, high‐profile national work.
This newly created role is embedded within the specialist integrity division of a federal government agency, and you will work closely with senior leaders on complex, high‐profile matters, while reporting directly to the Director of Strategic Communications. It offers a mix of strategic planning and practical, multi‐channel delivery in a fast‐paced setting.
This non‐ongoing opportunity is offered as a six‐month contract or temporary Section 26 transfer, with potential for extension. The role is Canberra‐based and offers flexible working arrangements, with a minimum of two days in the office each week.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and implementation of strategic communication plans and products for high‐priority projects and initiatives
* Produce high‐quality content across multiple channels (e.g., web, social, email, provider updates, presentations)
* Use highly developed written and communication skills to negotiate and communicate with influence
* Develop accessible messaging that explains complex compliance, billing and integrity concepts
* Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across government, regulatory and service provider environments
* Contribute to team management activities, reporting, planning and strategic alignment
* Support events, launches, presentations and engagement activities as required
About You
You are an experienced senior communications professional who brings sound judgement, excellent writing skills and confidence operating in a government or regulated public‐sector environment.
* Demonstrated experience in strategic communications within government
* Strong writing and editing capability, with the ability to distil complex and sensitive issues
* Experience managing competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment
* Ability to provide high‐quality advice to senior stakeholders
* Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‐building skills
* Experience across multiple communication platforms, including web, social and direct stakeholder communication
* A collaborative working style — someone who leads with influence, not ego
* Experience with health, integrity, regulatory or compliance‐related content is welcome but not essential
Eligibility
* Be an Australian citizen
* Be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance
