Gowrie St Primary School¿s vision is to be a community that takes strength from who we are: our diversity, our cultures and our histories. We will empower our students to seize life¿s opportunities and overcome its challenges. Working alongside our community is a core part of this and is reflected in many of our programs: our Wellbeing team, our therapeutic play program, our Paediatric clinic, our engagement programs and our new Community Hub.
Gowrie St Primary School¿s values are also very important to us and are part of our School-Wide Positive Behaviours Supports (SWPBS). Our values are Excellence, Determination, Empathy and Pride.
We have a strong focus on a love of reading and writing. We have over the past two years implemented a whole school reading model based on the experts and research of the University of Melbourne Network of Schools program (UMNOS). This model emphasises a love of reading, the explicit teaching of a transparent reading curriculum and independent reading strengthened by small groups and conferences. In 2019 we implemented the Writers Workshop model with great success. This includes the use of Writers Notebook and 6 + 1 Traits of Writing. This model complements the Department of Education and Training¿s recently released Literacy Strategy and Toolkit.
