The Role
This is a full-time position based in Newcastle, responsible for preparing accurate and commercially sound cost estimates across a range of civil construction projects.
Key responsibilities include:
* Reviewing tender documents, drawings and specifications to fully understand project scope, methodology and risk
* Completing detailed take-offs and quantifying labour, plant and material requirements
* Analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations
* Building comprehensive cost estimates including preliminaries, overheads and margins
* Identifying key project risks and applying appropriate allowances and contingencies
* Working closely with operations teams to develop practical construction methodologies
* Presenting pricing internally to senior management prior to submission
* Supporting the handover to delivery teams to ensure a seamless transition from tender to project execution
About You
* Demonstrated experience preparing detailed civil construction estimates using industry-standard software
* Previous experience working in a Civil Estimator role for a civil contractor
* Strong understanding of Australian construction standards, regulations and codes
* Highly analytical with the ability to review plans and specifications and identify risk early
* Confident engaging with subcontractors and suppliers to source competitive pricing
* Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to work effectively across internal teams
* Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar are advantageous
