Overview
This position is for a Ward Clerk Float to work and provide cover for all surgical wards within the Surgery Division. The Ward Clerk ensures that all patients admitted have all relevant documentation on arrival, that the Trust's electronic systems are kept up to date, and that key elements of the patient's pathway are recorded on the relevant systems to ensure the patient pathway is correct on arrival and discharge. This role is 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, including bank holidays.
Responsibilities
* Greet all patients and visitors to wards and departments and manage access via electronic entry systems.
* Identify and register potential overseas visitors on CAMIS.
* Answer ward/reception telephone promptly, take messages, and redirect calls as necessary.
* Enter data for attendances outside clinic/telephone consultations.
* Use the CAMIS Tracker system to locate, request, and collect patients\' case notes for planned and unplanned admissions.
* Maintain up-to-date location status for patient case notes using the tracker system throughout the stay.
* Open and distribute ward/department mail and redirect post where necessary.
* Collect patient notes from case note release/hospital shuttle buses.
* Input and extract patient and nursing information using clinical IT systems.
* Photocopying/scanning and copying of case notes for transfers to other hospitals when requested.
* Attend all mandatory training in line with Trust policy.
* Participate in the Trust's Annual Performance Development Appraisal and Review.
* Adhere to the Trust's policies, procedures and disciplinary rules.
* Undertake any other duties allocated by the Ward/Admin Manager/Team Leader.

Essential Criteria
* Personal Attributes & Skills: Able to work with team members to distribute workload effectively
* Qualifications & Training: GCSE English Language – minimum Grade C or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
* Knowledge & Experience: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word
Desirable criteria
* Experience with CaMIS or large mainframe databases
* Experience working within a healthcare environment
