The Delivery Director for Distributed Energy is responsible for the technical performance and successful delivery of distributed energy assets—such as sub-5MW battery energy storage systems (BESS), ground-mount solar, and rooftop solar—across design, construction, and operational stages. The role provides strategic direction, oversight, and guidance to project engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure efficient delivery, strong commercial outcomes, and full compliance with health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) standards.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
* Build and lead a blended team of internal resources and external partners, including EPC/BOP contractors, OEMs, and consultants.
* Foster a strong culture of safety and ensure adherence to HSSE procedures.
* Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate HSSE risks throughout all project phases.
Project Delivery & Technical Oversight
* Ensure all project outputs are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to high technical and HSSE standards.
* Oversee solution design to support investment cases, including grid-connection considerations and technical scoping.
* Develop project budgets for equipment supply, construction, and operations.
* Manage due diligence of OEM equipment supply proposals and EPC/BOP contractor offerings.
* Lead OEM and EPC/BOP engagement, including contract administration, schedule integration, change control, variation management, extension-of-time claims, liquidated damages, and warranty protection.
Asset Management & Operations
* Establish and maintain asset management systems and processes to maximise efficiency and commercial performance.
* Oversee proactive and reactive maintenance programs, reliability improvements, spares strategy, and warranty recoveries to achieve availability targets and other key performance indicators.
* Maintain high-quality reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including performance metrics, meeting minutes, project schedules, and milestone completion.
Commercial & Technical Support
* Provide technical input to origination activities, including site evaluation, grid feasibility, technical scope development, and capex/opex modelling.
* Leverage automation, software tools, and AI applications—such as analytics, forecasting, and predictive maintenance—to enhance asset performance.
Qualifications & Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in engineering, project management, or a related discipline (electrical/power preferred; PMP or Chartered status desirable).
* 10+ years of experience in the design, construction, and operation of energy storage, distributed energy, or utility-scale renewable energy projects, including HV works.
* Advanced project management capabilities, including scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
* Strong knowledge of HSSE legislation, risk frameworks, and contract management, with demonstrable safety leadership.
* Well-established network of contractors and suppliers within the energy sector, with experience managing EPC/BOP and OEM partners.
* Comprehensive understanding of applicable legislation, standards, codes of practice, and their implications for project delivery and operations.
* Familiarity with energy markets and relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., National Electricity Rules in Australia).
