Role Description
Working in the Criminal Law and Domestic Violence department of the Practice; and
Appearing in the Cleveland Magistrates Court as Criminal Law Duty Lawyer; and
The successful applicant will also be required to regularly appear in other Magistrate, District and Supreme Courts, throughout the State of Queensland; and
Working alongside Barristers as well as other stakeholders, such as the Police Prosecution, Director of Public Prosecution, Court staff, forensic psychologists etc; and
The position requires a full-time candidate to work 5 days a week, from 8.30am to 5:00pm.
Responsibilities
* Be highly motivated, driven to work autonomously and be a team player.
* Need to appear in all Courts throughout Queensland (but predominantly, Cleveland).
* Need to be a clear and concise advocate.
* Be able to consider the evidence of the Prosecution against the law and case law authorities and be able to give a detailed legal opinion.
* Have good writing and computer skills.
* Be able to brief a Barrister with clear and concise instructions.
Qualifications and Skills
* Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Solicitor.
* A good knowledge and experience in criminal law and domestic violence matters.
* Proficiency in drafting.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively liaise with referrers, clients, and other stakeholders.
* The successful application must have excellent attention to detail and computer skills and be a team player.
