The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI)'s mission is clear: to discover breakthrough cancer treatments and improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

We are looking for a creative, proactive and highly organised Content and Events Officer (Part-time, 2 days/week) to help amplify our story and showcase the incredible work of our scientists.

About the role

As our Content and Events Officer, you will transform ONJCRI's research findings and scientific breakthroughs into powerful communications, crafting channel‐ready content, and delivering standout events that bring our purpose to life.

With creativity and ownership, you will help grow community engagement, keep our digital platforms fresh and consistent, and amplify our brand and impact with supporters, partners and the wider community.

Your Responsibilities

* Create clear, accurate and engaging communications that translate ONJCRI's research findings and scientific breakthroughs into accessible content, including social media posts, website/intranet articles, newsletters, event collateral, videos and Canva designs tailored to audience and channel.
* Plan and publish content on ONJCRI's social media platforms, monitor conversations, engage with followers and leverage trends to grow reach, awareness and advocacy across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and emerging channels, aligning content with ONJCRI's purpose and impact.
* Keep the ONJCRI website and intranet current, relevant and easy to navigate through regular content updates, ensuring a strong user experience and accurate reflection of institute activities.
* Champion a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all channels. Proofread and edit to deliver high-quality, error‐free communications that enhance credibility and trust.
* Support the end-to-end delivery of institute events such as forums, open days, donor functions, photoshoots, coordinating logistics, suppliers, budgets and run sheets, and capturing assets for pre‐/post‐event communications.
* Partner with researchers and internal teams to source research updates, data and institute achievements, align messages, secure approvals and ensure communications and events support strategic objectives.
* Ensure all activities adhere to regulations, policies and data privacy standards; manage consent for images and research communications; surface risks early and support mitigation actions to protect people, partners and reputation.

Are you the ideal candidate?

* A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, English, or a related field, with a passion for health, life sciences or medical research.
* Or a bachelor's degree in life sciences but with professional experience in the marketing, communications, public relations or journalism industry.
* Experience in successfully contributing to marketing and/or communications projects, demonstrating a clear understanding of the principles and tactics involved.
* Experience in not-for-profit, charitable or philanthropic organisation in the health or medical research sectors would be advantageous.

You will have:

* Exceptional writing skills with a demonstrated ability to produce compelling content for a broad range of audiences.
* Editorial skills and experience identifying, researching and reporting complex research findings in an accessible and engaging way.
* Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships with a diverse group of people and stakeholders/partners.
* Highly developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify emerging issues, trends and risks.
* Literacy in:
o MS Office suite.
o Digital design tools (e.g., Canva, InDesign).
o Social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite) or social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky).
o WordPress or other website Content Management System.
