Electrical Designer with AutoCAD

Function: Electrical & Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Design
Are you an experienced Electrical and ITS Designer looking to apply your technical expertise to a major roads-focused organisation? We are seeking a skilled professional to support the development of high‑quality Electrical and ITS standard designs that help shape critical transport infrastructure.
This 6 month temporary role sits within the Electrical Standards team and offers the opportunity to contribute to essential design documentation and participate in the improvement of engineering standards that support safer, more efficient road networks.
As the Electrical & ITS (E&ITS) Designer, you will work under broad direction from the Principal Electrical Standards Engineer to deliver accurate, compliant and well‑structured design artefacts.
Key Responsibilities
* Electrical & ITS Design
* Collate and interpret requirements to produce detailed standard E&ITS designs.
* Prepare and update drawings across a range of types, including:
o Schematics
o Termination diagrams
o Interconnection and connectivity diagrams
o Site layouts and general arrangements
o Presentation drawings (symbols)
o Switchboard/distribution board layouts
o Cable schedules
o Bills of materials
* Standards and Specifications Development
* Apply your technical knowledge to support the creation and refinement of Electrical and ITS Standards and Specifications
* Work collaboratively with engineers and stakeholders to ensure designs meet compliance, safety and quality expectations
Essential Criteria
To be considered, candidates must demonstrate:
1. Experience in Electrical and ITS drafting and design, including reviewing, updating and creating technical drawings such as schematics, termination and interconnection diagrams, site layouts, switchboard arrangements, cable schedules and bills of materials.
2. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (or equivalent CAD software) with the capability to deliver accurate, consistent and well‑structured drawings aligned with standards, specifications and drafting conventions
3. Sound knowledge of Electrical and ITS systems and relevant standards, including understanding of electrical and workplace safety requirements, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other stakeholders
4. Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to contribute positively within a collaborative, team‑oriented environment
