About the role

As a Consultant Paediatrician, you will provide high-quality clinical care to paediatric and neonatal patients across the Goldfields region. While primarily based at Kalgoorlie Health Campus, you will also contribute to services at Esperance Hospital and outreach to surrounding communities.

Working in close collaboration with the Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and our expert clinicians, you will lead the delivery of patient-centred care, contribute to clinical governance, and play an active role in policy development and service improvement. This position also offers the opportunity to mentor and supervise registrars, residents, and interns, fostering the next generation of paediatric specialists.

You will be part of a dedicated team of Paediatricians supported by five trainees, including a Senior Registrar, Registrar, Residents, and an Intern. The role includes an on-call component, allowing you to make a vital impact in emergency and critical care situations, including neonatal medicine.

About you

You are a skilled and compassionate Consultant Paediatrician, motivated by the opportunity to make a real difference in regional and remote healthcare. You bring expertise in the management of acute and chronic paediatric conditions, with a strong interest in neonatal care and developmental paediatrics.

Beyond clinical excellence, you are a natural leader and mentor - someone who enjoys teaching, supervising, and supporting junior doctors while fostering a collaborative and respectful team culture. You have the confidence to navigate high-pressure situations, the curiosity to embrace clinical innovation, and the resilience to adapt to the unique challenges of rural practice.

Importantly, you are driven by a commitment to equity in healthcare, with a deep respect for cultural diversity and a passion for improving outcomes for Aboriginal children and families. Whether your motivation is advancing your career, seeking a lifestyle change, or contributing to communities where your impact is profound and lasting, this role offers the opportunity to lead, inspire, and grow.

About the Region

Kalgoorlie-Boulder: Known as Australia's largest outback city, Kalgoorlie-Boulder is home to over 30,000 residents and combines a rich gold mining heritage with modern amenities. The city offers excellent schools, a thriving sporting culture, and a strong community spirit. Surrounded by wide-open landscapes, eucalyptus forests, and endless horizons, Kalgoorlie is an ideal base for those who value both professional challenge and regional lifestyle.

Located on Western Australia's southern coastline, Esperance is famous for its pristine white beaches, turquoise waters, and breathtaking national parks. The region offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle with opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping, and exploring untouched wilderness. Esperance provides an extraordinary balance of natural beauty and community living, making it one of WA's most sought-after regional allocations.

Eligibility to Apply

Australian citizenship or permanent residency is an essential requirement for applicants to be considered for permanent positions in the public sector. Applicants on a visa can be appointed on a fixed-term contract.

Information for Specialist International Medical Graduates

We welcome applications from Specialist International Graduates (SIMGs); however, we are only able to appoint those who have received a determination of 'Substantially Comparable' due to the limitation in supervision provisions. Those who have not applied for a comparability assessment with the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) Paediatrics and Child Health Division may be placed on hold and not assessed until a determination can be provided. The RACP fellowship assessment determines whether the training and qualifications of SIMGs are comparable to those of Australian-trained specialists in paediatric practice. This assessment is crucial for ensuring that all practitioners comply with Australian standards.

To complete the application, please apply online via MedCareersWARef and submit the following documents:

* Comprehensive and Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) outlining qualifications, training, and relevant experience, demonstrating how you meet the requirements of the role.
