Due to continued growth, Oroya Labs is seeking a motivated and capable Casual Laboratory Technician to join the onsite team in Charters Towers. This is a strong opportunity to work in a small, high performing team that supports mining and processing operations through accurate and timely analytical results.

This role is offered on a Drive In Drive Out (DIDO) arrangement to the Charters Towers laboratory. It offers flexibility for candidates living locally or commuting from the greater Far North Queensland region, including Townsville. Comfortable local accommodation is provided for non local staff.

In this role, you will complete a range of laboratory tasks, from sample preparation to routine and specialised testing. You will ensure results are delivered to a high standard. You will also work closely with the processing and mining teams to resolve sample quality issues and help maintain smooth plant operations.

Key responsibilities:

Work independently and manage your time to ensure safe, accurate and efficient laboratory operations.

Conduct sample preparation, including crushing, drying, riffle splitting, wet and dry screening, Pulverise and Leach testing, and classical wet chemistry techniques.

Collaborate with processing and mining teams to address sample quality issues and maintain efficient workflows.

Handle hazardous chemicals safely and complete risk assessments in line with site safety standards.

Maintain accurate records and use Microsoft Excel for data management and reporting.

Manage laboratory consumables and raise work orders as required.

Desirable experience:

* Experience in gold analysis, with PAL and or AAS experience highly regarded.

* Experience working independently with a high level of autonomy.

* Flexibility and reliability.

Essential role requirements:

* Proven experience in a laboratory environment.

* Relevant laboratory qualification or equivalent practical experience.

* Full working rights in Australia.

* Ability to provide a valid recent National Police Clearance issued within the past 12 months.

* Current Australian C Class Driver’s Licence.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.

* Ability to pass a pre employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screening.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
