Job Title: Modelling Engineering Manager
Level: 3 - Advanced Practitioner
Location: Symonston, ACT
Contract Duration: From 01 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, with potential extension for up to an additional 2 years.
Role Overview:
The Modelling Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role overseeing the Digital Design Modelling program. The focus will be on managing integration and interoperability efforts across the Land Combat System (LCS) Digital Design (LCS DD). This role involves handling complex engineering projects, leading technical teams, and advising on critical technical risks. As a key player in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), the Modelling Engineering Manager will ensure the seamless integration of Army's systems while adhering to engineering management processes and strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Engineering Management and Program Oversight:
* Lead and manage the Design Modelling Engineering program, ensuring the program adheres to the Engineering Management Plan (EMP) and associated schedules.
* Provide regular progress reports to the SO2 Design, identifying technical risks and proposing solutions.
* Oversee integration and development activities related to LCS DD, ensuring milestone adherence and project schedule compliance.
1. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
* Collaborate with Frames, capability managers, acquisition agencies, and external service providers to drive successful program outcomes.
* Engage with technical stakeholders within Army, Defence, and coalition partners to align on system requirements and integration strategies.
2. Technical Leadership and Reviews:
* Represent LCS DD Modelling at the Engineering Review Board and Configuration Control Board.
* Oversee configuration management, conduct technical reviews, and approve engineering designs, documents, and specifications.
* Ensure the quality control of all modelling program outputs in line with the Engineering Management System (EMS).
3. Standards and Compliance:
* Develop and maintain governance frameworks for the LCS DD Modelling Program, ensuring consistency with the EMS.
* Manage digital design baselines and maintain the associated standards repository.
* Liaise with the LCSS Engineering Manager and broader technical teams to ensure integration with existing systems.
4. Reporting and Documentation:
* Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and documentation for stakeholders and program boards, including monthly status reports.
* Provide strategic advice on technical, design, and risk management issues, escalating as needed.
5. Additional Duties:
* Stay abreast of emerging technology solutions and evaluate their potential integration into Army systems.
* Travel interstate or internationally to support acquisition, sustainment, and coalition engagement activities as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum 8 years of industry experience in Project Management, meeting the Level 3 DSS panel requirements.
* Proven track record in managing complex, multi-disciplinary engineering or software projects within Defence, especially in digital integration or ICT.
* Experience in leading teams, particularly in a multidisciplinary environment.
* Advanced qualifications in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields.
* Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices.
* Proficiency in project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, MSP, P30, or AGILE.
* Knowledge of defence engineering processes, ideally within the Land domain.
* Strong communication skills and experience in advising senior technical and executive staff.
* Master's degree in Systems Engineering or related disciplines.
* Leadership experience in ICT or mechatronic engineering teams.
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills for cross-organizational collaboration.
* Previous experience with Defence project teams, especially in military technology environments.
* Knowledge of the Commonwealth procurement process and Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act.
* Familiarity with One Defence Capability System and related frameworks.
