Our dedicated in-house design team develops and manufactures all required components within our own facilities in Perth, Western Australia.

Established in 2004 as Southern Mining Electrical Contractors, we have grown to become one of Australia's premium providers of electrical products and services to the mining and industrial markets in Australia and overseas.

About the Role

SMEC Power & Technology is seeking a skilled Communications Technician to support our ongoing underground mining operations with a major gold producer in Western Australia. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring a reliable, uninterrupted communications infrastructure across multiple Goldfields sites.

Working on an 8-day on, 6-day off roster, you'll be part of a long-term project offering stability and the opportunity to contribute to high-performing operations. At SMEC, we empower our people to Execute with Excellence by providing the right tools, support, and team environment to succeed.

You will play a hands‐on role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing a variety of communication systems in a dynamic mining environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fault finding, diagnosing, and repairing faults across diverse communication systems
  • Installing and maintaining RF equipment, and Fibre Optic networks (including splicing and testing)
  • Programming mining fleet radios and maintaining site-wide Wi‐Fi networks
  • Recording maintenance activities and supporting project readiness using Pronto CMMS
About You

You are a safety‐focused and technically capable professional who takes pride in delivering reliable outcomes. You thrive in team environments and bring a proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Certificate III in Electronics and Communications (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role, with a focus on radio systems and networks
  • Preferred: WA Endorsed Electrician certification (highly regarded)
