Join our close-knit, dynamic team in Mangere, Auckland, and be part of an organisation that values collaboration, growth, and excellence.As part of the site leadership team, the Retail Packing Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the retail packing area in a high-volume Biltong and Jerky manufacturing facility. This includes ensuring all retail-ready products are packed accurately, hygienically, efficiently, and in full compliance with food safety, quality, and customer requirements. The role also involves managing a team of packing staff, driving performance, and maintaining high standards of productivity and workplace safety.Job DescriptionOperational ManagementOversee daily packing operations for Biltong and Jerky retail lines to meet production schedules.Ensure all products are correctly weighed, sealed, labelled, and packed to customer and regulatory specifications.Monitor packing efficiency, identify bottlenecks, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.Food Safety & QualityEnsure compliance with food safety standards (e.g., BRCGS, HACCP, GMP) during packing processes.Conduct visual inspections of product and packaging for quality defects.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of packing operations, including traceability documentation and quality checks.Team LeadershipSupervise, train, and support packing team members to ensure high performance and adherence to procedures.Manage staff rosters, breaks, and timekeeping to optimize productivity and reduce downtime.Promote a positive safety and food safety culture within the packing team.Inventory & Packaging SuppliesMonitor usage and stock levels of retail packaging materials and consumables.Coordinate with the procurement or warehouse team to ensure timely replenishment of packing supplies.Compliance & DocumentationEnsure packing documentation is completed correctly (batch records, label verification, traceability logs).Participate in internal and external audits, supporting document retrieval and area readiness.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Daily retail packing targets achieved (volume and accuracy)Labour efficiency and downtime reductionCompliance to food safety and quality standards (non-conformances)Packaging material usage vs. targetStaff training and adherence to SOPsWorkplace safety incidents and near missesWork ConditionsWork is performed in a chilled or ambient production environment.PPE must be worn in accordance with site requirements.May involve early starts, shift work or weekend work depending on operational needs.QualificationsQualifications and ExperienceMinimum 3 years’ experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferably in packing or production roles.Prior experience supervising a team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.Sound understanding of HACCP, GMP, and food safety compliance.Forklift licence (preferred but not essential).High attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Strong knowledge of Work Safe Australia's practices for manufacturing environmentKey CompetenciesStrong leadership and team management skillsEffective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to prioritise and manage time efficiently Strong ability to problem solve and lead corrective actionAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlinesCommitment to continuous improvement and food safety cultureAdditional InformationWhy Join Jack Link’s?Be part of something bigger: Jack Link’s is a global brand with a strong presence in the APAC region.Collaborate across teams: Work alongside our APAC team members to bring our unique culture to life!Supportive environment: Join a fun, cohesive team committed to achieving greatness.What’s Next?Ready to make your mark?
