About the Hospital and Mental Health Service:
The hospital provides medical, surgical and specialist services to a population of approximately 250,000 people living across Tasmania's south region. The hospital is a significant clinical teaching and research site, working in close partnership with the University of Tasmania.
The hospital has a dedicated acute inpatient mental health unit providing treatment for individuals who require 24-hour specialist mental health care in a safe and secure environment. The unit provides three levels of care, including lower acuity, medium acuity, and high acuity, with each supporting a collaborative, integrated suite of programs to ensure the best possible outcomes for mental health patients and their families.
Services are delivered by psychiatric consultants, registrars, medical officers, nursing staff, and allied health staff, including psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and diversional therapists. In addition to the inpatient unit, community-based mental health teams operate to support the needs of individuals who can be treated without the need for acute hospital admission.
