Job Title: Biosecurity Trainee

A biosecurity trainee role is now available within our organization. This 24-month fixed term position provides a unique opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in biosecurity while working towards a Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management.

A typical day as a Biosecurity Trainee is varied, with tasks including environmental monitoring, natural area maintenance, and managing invasive plants and animals. Traveling to different sites to assess and manage ecosystems is also an essential part of this role.


Key Responsibilities:

* Environmental Monitoring– Recording data on flora, fauna, and habitat conditions using GPS, maps, and monitoring sheets.
* Natural Area Maintenance – Assisting in revegetation, erosion control, and habitat restoration projects.
* Managing Invasive Plants and Animals– working with the biosecurity team to manage invasive plant and animal species prioritised under the organisation's plan.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision; and communicate well in person and in writing;
* Basic computer skills, including word processing and data entry or retrieval;
* Proven ability to complete training assessments or coursework within set timeframes;
* Examples of teamwork skills in work, school, or extracurricular settings, including how you communicate in these environments;
* Physical capability to undertake manual handling duties and work outdoors in varying weather conditions;
* Possession of a CA class driver's license or the ability to obtain one within three months of employment (desirable).

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The successful candidate will be required to carry out physical tasks that include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.


Eligibility Conditions:

This position is part of a targeted recruitment strategy and applicants must identify as a First Nations person from a Traditional Owner group within the region. Only candidates who meet these criteria will be considered for this role.
