About the Role
As Group Financial Controller, you will manage the Group's financial operations and compliance, reporting directly to the CFO. You'll oversee financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, taxation, cash flow, audits, internal controls and policy development. This role involves managing a high-performing finance team and partnering with the CFO and business units to enhance commercial insight, operational efficiency, and fiscal discipline.
Role Responsibilities
Lead the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in line with statutory and management requirements.
Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting obligations, including tax lodgments, ASIC reporting, and external audits.
Maintain and continuously improve internal controls and governance frameworks to ensure financial data integrity and risk management.
Partner with external advisors to ensure compliance and optimise financial outcomes.
Ensure alignment of financial objectives with business strategy and growth plans.
Act as a trusted advisor to the CFO and broader executive leadership team.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
Lead the development of annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
Provide clear financial interpretation and advice to senior stakeholders to support data-driven decision making.
Partner with business leaders to identify performance drivers and implement initiatives that improve financial outcomes.
Deliver forward-looking insights through forecasting, scenario modelling, and variance analysis to guide strategic planning.
Identify trends, opportunities, and risks, and deliver actionable recommendations to the CFO and executive team.
Cash Flow, Treasury & Capital Management
Monitor group cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to ensure business continuity and financial stability.
Manage banking relationships and oversee funding, debt facilities, and treasury operations.
Support capital investment appraisals and business cases for strategic initiatives.
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to promote a collaborative and integrated working environment.
Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Promote cross-functional collaboration between finance and other departments to strengthen financial acumen across the business.
Inspire and manage a multi-disciplinary finance team with a focus on professional development and succession planning.
Promote a positive work environment that reflects SUBCO's values and cultural objectives.
Systems, Process Improvement & Projects
Drive automation and efficiency in financial processes, reporting systems, and controls.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives in financial reporting, including automation and system enhancements.
Lead or support system upgrades, ERP implementations, and integration of new acquisitions or business units.
Provide financial leadership and project governance on transformation initiatives and M&A activity.
About you
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
CPA/CA or equivalent professional certification.
Extensive experience in a financial management role with a proven track-record in a financial leadership position.
Experience in building and maintaining Power BI dashboards that turn complex data into actionable insights.
Passionate about continuous improvement and focused on streamlining reporting processes for greater efficiency and clarity.
Confident working with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into intuitive, data-driven solutions.
Understanding of telecommunications regulations, market dynamics and financial drivers is desirable.
Expertise in financial planning, capital budgeting and complex financial analysis.
Knowledge of industry-specific laws, regulatory requirements and financial reporting standards.
Strong capability in aligning financial strategy with business objectives to drive growth.
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with a track record of driving organisational change and achieving results.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Commercial mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into strategic insight.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
