As a Legal Counsel, you will provide independent, timely, and pragmatic legal advice to SGS Australia Group's management, divisions, and functions, protecting the Group’s legal and commercial interests.
The key practice areas are primarily general commercial law, with additional focus on privacy, competition, and consumer law.
This role offers flexibility to work from home and from our offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, or Perth. It is suitable for candidates seeking full-time or part-time work (4 days per week or school hours).
Some specific responsibilities include:
1. Providing general commercial law advice, including on business transactions, drafting, advising on, and negotiating commercial contracts and tender submissions, business/asset acquisitions, and disposals.
2. Advising on privacy law issues, managing the Group’s Privacy Compliance Programme, and acting as the Group’s Data Protection Officer.
3. Providing advice on trade practices (Competition and Consumer) law issues, including managing the Group’s Competition and Consumer Law Compliance Programme.
4. Identifying and managing legal risks related to claims, contracts, and operations.
5. Developing internal governance, risk, or compliance policies as needed.
6. Providing education sessions to management and staff on regulatory compliance and legal issues.
7. Liaising with external legal advisors, Geneva HQ legal staff, and other SGS staff internationally.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
1. Qualified as a solicitor in Australia for unrestricted practice.
2. Minimum of 4 years’ experience.
3. Experience as in-house counsel, ideally in a multinational setting.
4. Experience in General Commercial, Privacy, Competition, and Consumer law (IP and IT law experience is a plus).
