Project Officers, Exhibitions

We are seeking a Project Officer, Exhibitions & Interpretation and a Project Officer, Exhibitions & Travelling Exhibitions to join our dynamic Exhibitions & Interpretation team. In these complementary roles, you'll contribute to the development, production and delivery of exhibitions, displays and interpretation projects, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to support project management, design, installation and evaluation. You'll play a key part in managing concurrent projects, overseeing copyright permissions and supporting teams to help bring our stories and collections to life for diverse audiences.

What the opportunity is:

* Employment with Museums of History NSW.
* Clerk Grade 3/4. Remuneration package includes salary ($84,659 - $92,701), employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.
* Full-time employment on an ongoing basis.
* The role will work across Sydney.

What we do

Museums of History NSW brings together a portfolio of iconic museums, rich collections and heritage sites, the nation's oldest archive collection, vital recordkeeping services and expert staff.

We bring history to life by sharing the stories of our places and collections. Through the State Archives Collection, we manage NSW's official documentary heritage, supporting government transparency and the public's right to access information.

These two roles do not just sit side by side – they inform and enrich each other. By preserving and making accessible our places, collections and archives, we create opportunities for people to explore the past and better understand their own place in the world. By supporting lifelong learning and inviting people to come together, we promote civic literacy, empathy, wellbeing and belonging.

Museums of History NSW is a state cultural institution, established under the Museums of History NSW Act 2022. It is an agency of the NSW Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport (DCITHS).

What you'll do with us:

Project Officer, Exhibitions & Interpretation
Work as part of multidisciplinary project teams to assist with the project management and administration of all aspects of the development, production, design, installation and evaluation of interpretation projects, major exhibitions and displays. Coordinate minor displays and projects and undertake copyright permissions for multiple concurrent exhibition, display and interpretation projects.
Project Officer, Exhibitions & Travelling Exhibitions
Work as part of multidisciplinary project teams to assist with the project management and administration of all aspects of the development, production, design, installation and evaluation of interpretation projects, major exhibitions and travelling exhibitions and displays. What you need to do to apply

To apply you will need to submit the following:

* A one to two page cover letter outlining which role(s) you are applying for and how your skills and experience meet the essential requirements for the role(s). If you are applying for both roles, please clearly state this and specify your preferred role,

* Respond to the 2 targeted questions (no more than 300 words per answer). Your responses to the targeted questions should be submitted online during your application and not included in the covering letter.

What you need to tell us - Targeted questions:

1. Can you describe a recent exhibition or display you supported where you were responsible for maintaining the exhibition content list, image management and copyright permissions. Explain how you ensured accuracy, compliance and timely delivery across multiple tasks.

2. Share an example of when you collaborated with a multidisciplinary team to install an exhibition, either onsite or at a touring venue, and outline how you contributed to problem‐solving and communication to ensure the timely delivery of the project.

Essential requirements of the roles:

Project Officer, Exhibitions & Interpretation

* Tertiary qualification in Australia history or an arts related field.
* Experience with the installation of exhibitions and displays, including object handling and care and condition reporting.
* Experience working with a range of software applications used to manage, develop and report on exhibitions and museum interpretation projects.
* Current NSW driver's licence (desirable).

Project Officer, Exhibitions & Travelling Exhibitions

* Experience working on the development, coordination and installation of travelling exhibitions and displays.
* Experience working across a range of administrative tasks and using computer applications to support projects and teams.
* Experience with object handling and care.
* Current NSW driver's licence.
