The Azure Core Storage team delivers the Storage Virtualization platform for Azure Virtual Machines, handling trillions of input/output operations every day across hundreds of datacenters and thousands of clusters worldwide. We own the entire software stack on Azure hosts, which manages virtual machine input/output operations, caching, throttling, quality of service, transport layers, and encryption of data in transit and at rest.
As a Software Engineer II on our team, you will design and implement software components that enable and optimize storage solutions across the Azure fleet. These components include device drivers, system software, installation and diagnostic tools, libraries, telemetry services, and comprehensive testing. You will collaborate with developers across Microsoft and with software and hardware partners to deliver innovative technology.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1+ years experience in design, development, debugging, testing and problem-solving.
1+ years experience handling periodic live service on-call responsibilities.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, the Microsoft Cloud Background Check, required upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
1+ years experience with system software, storage protocols, networking concepts and operating system internals (memory management, scheduling, interrupts, threading, etc.).
1+ years experience with design, implementation, debugging and testing of operating system drivers (kernel mode and user mode). Windows Driver and Kernel component development.
1+ years experience delivering across multiple ship cycles.
Responsibilities
Design and develop system software that manages storage services in Azure.
Conduct system design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, perform code reviews, and leverage data/telemetry to make decisions.
Ensure services and components are well-defined, modular, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored, and reusable.
Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability; understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
Rapidly deploy cloud-scale solutions and monitor health through telemetry.
Drive continuous quality improvement of the systems on which you work.
Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), guiding other engineers with playbooks, handling on-call monitoring, alerting stakeholders, and initiating actions to restore systems as needed.
Stay current in skills by investing time to keep abreast of developments that improve availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance at scale.
