About the role
As Workshop Controller, you will play a pivotal role in the day‐to‐day success of the service department.
Working closely with the Service Manager, Service Advisors, and Technicians, you will coordinate workflow through the workshop, manage technician productivity, monitor job progress, and help ensure all work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
This is a hands‐on leadership role suited to someone with strong workshop experience, sound technical knowledge, and the ability to keep operations running smoothly while building a positive team culture.
What you'll be doing
* Coordinate and manage the daily flow of the workshop
* Allocate repair orders to technicians based on skill set and workshop priorities
* Monitor the progress of repairs and servicing to ensure timeframes and quality standards are met
* Liaise with Service Advisors and management to provide accurate updates and manage workshop capacity
* Support technicians with technical guidance and day‐to‐day workshop coordination
* Carry out or support quality checks on completed work
* Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and housekeeping
* Contribute to workshop targets across productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
* Provide leadership, support, and motivation to the workshop team
What we're looking for
To succeed in this role, you will ideally bring:
* Previous experience in an automotive workshop environment
* Strong technical knowledge and understanding of workshop operations
* The ability to manage workflow and balance competing priorities
* Strong leadership, communication, and team support skills
* A proactive, solutions‐focused approach
* High attention to detail and a commitment to quality
* The ability to work well under pressure in a busy environment
A Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or qualification as an Automotive Technician will be highly regarded.
Previous experience as a Workshop Controller or in a senior workshop leadership role will also be highly regarded. Experience with Mitsubishi/GWM/Subaru or other dealership brands will be advantageous, though not essential.
