CTST is a not-for-profit organisation providing transport, home maintenance, social support, disability services and domestic assistance to older Tasmanians and individuals with health or mobility limitations. Operating statewide with over 500 staff and volunteers and a fleet of 100+ vehicles, our mission is simple: to ensure every Tasmanian can access high-quality, reliable support to live well within their community.
About the Role
We're planning for the likely implementation of a new service to transport students with a disability to specialist schools in Burnie. We're inviting experienced and safety-conscious drivers to express interest in being added to a register for potential future opportunities to deliver this essential service.
Key Responsibilities:
* Safely operate CTST vehicles in compliance with road laws and organisational procedures
* Assist students with boarding and disembarking where needed and with respect to their needs, ensuring their comfort and safety
* Operate wheelchair hoists/ramps (training provided) and check wheelchair tie downs
* Work collaboratively with Bus Attendants to store belongings and support students
* Communicate promptly with Driver Support regarding delays, incidents or service interruptions
* Follow emergency response procedures when required
Service Details:
* Morning and afternoon shifts aligned to school hours
* Transport approx. 6 students (including one wheelchair user) plus 1–2 Bus Attendants who will be responsible for direct support and ensuring safety/compliance with regulations e.g. seat belts
* Government school days only
About You
You are a reliable, patient and professional driver who values safety and inclusion. You will have:
* A strong commitment to providing respectful and supportive transport for students with disability
* Ability to work collaboratively with Bus Attendants and follow procedures
* Excellent communication skills for liaising with schools, families and CTST
* Willingness to undertake training in operating wheelchair hoists and securing mobility equipment
* Ability to complete routine reporting requirements (e.g. absentee logs, incident reports)
* Confident using technology including an iPad for in-vehicle tasks and completing training and timesheets online
Experience in community transport or working with people with disability is highly regarded but not essential.
Essential Requirements
* Current C Class (car) licence, minimum 2 years driving experience, clean record (no major traffic violations in the past 3 years)
* Working with Vulnerable Persons Registration (NDIS endorsed) – or willingness to obtain
* Undergo a National Police Check
* Australian residency or valid Australian work visa
* Willingness to travel intrastate as required
