Primary objective
Provide high level executive administrative and secretarial support to the School Principal and additional ad hoc support to the
Heads of Campus. This position works in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing deadlines and priorities where critical
issues arise daily and deals with challenging and sensitive topics, it requires a person who is experienced, well organized, adaptable,
and able to work under pressure.
Context statement
Top End School of Flexible Learning is an alternative secondary education setting with multiple campus sites. It is a flexible learning
school for disengaged and at-risk teenagers in the Darwin, Palmerston, and Rural area. TESoFL aims to engage a range of young
people at risk of social isolation, juvenile justice involvement, low education outcomes and unemployment and who may be in care.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level executive administrative and secretarial support to the school principal including assessing and prioritizing
matters to assist in the effective management of workload.
2. Undertake research projects as requested, including presentation and analysis of information.
3. Liaise with all levels of staff within the Department, other public sector agencies, external organisations in a discrete and
confidential manner.
4. Assist with the development and management of the school’s operational policy, procedures, and annual reports, ensuring
information is current and communicated to the school and broader community via communication mediums.
5. Work flexibly across the school environment and make positive contributions towards the school goals and TESoFL
improvement agenda.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level ability in oral, written communication, and reporting skills for the presentation of a range of complex
and detailed reports and correspondence.
2. Exceptional coordination and organisational skills and the ability to manage own performance autonomously, take responsibility
for achieving expected outcomes, flexibility to adapt to changing issues, priorities, and deadlines.
3. Extensive knowledge in computer systems including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
4. Prior experience operating in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational and time management skills with the
flexibility to handle changing priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
5. Attention to detail with ability to delegate and escalate issues, develop creative solutions, and seek out positive improvements.
Desirable
1. Knowledge and understanding of Department of Education’s vision, mission, and objectives as well as their legal obligations.
2. Experience working in a government.
