Details: The primary responsibilities of the position are to lead Road Works crew and contractors carrying out general road maintenance duties, with accountability for administration, productivity, efficiency, quality standards, work, health, safety systems and environmental requirements.

Under limited supervision, leading a team, the position will oversee the work of the team, employing an independent approach and display a high degree of initiative. These tasks encompass the provision of trade and equivalent level guidance and provide assistance to other members of a work team, including staff training, estimating materials for jobs, planning, programming, prioritising and allocating work to crews. The role will oversee the completion of maintenance records and preparation of minor reports.

The position will lead the signs and lines team in the Works business unit within Roads ACT. Roads ACT is looking for candidates who have experience working on construction sites, preferably installing signs and/or applying line marking to pavements.

The role will plan, and program works for the Signs and Lines team. A focus for the role will be undertaking reflectivity testing to ensure that quality standards are met and recording the results. The position will also undertake surveillance activities on contractors line marking application works, identifying defects through reflectivity testing and quality assessment against the technical standards and documenting results. The role will also undertake surveillance on contractor's work, health, safety systems and environmental standards.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

* Visa holders are eligible to apply for both permanent and temporary roles. Those with eligible visas may be considered for permanent employment, while individuals with temporary residency or limited-duration visas may be offered permanent employment for the duration of their visas.
* Experience working in infrastructure industry (highly desirable).
* Willingness to work overtime/shifts as and when required.
* Willingness to undertake training activities to meet operational and organisational expectations.
* Willingness to undertake computer and in field technology training and use.
* Current driver's licence class C is essential, class MR (medium rigid) essential or ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
* Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or willingness to obtain is essential (CPCWHS1001); General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
* Asbestos awareness card or a willingness to obtain is essential - Asbestos Awareness Training and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organisation is required before commencement (11084NAT), for further information refer to: Asbestos Awareness Training - WorkSafe ACT
* 10830NAT, Course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention is essential.
* This position does require a pre-employment medical.
* This position does not require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.
* Plant Operators Certificate/Licence is essential within 3 months of appointment.
* HLTAIDO11, Provide First Aid is essential or ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
* Traffic controller (TCR) is essential or ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
* Certificate III or above in a Civil Construction related trade would be desirable.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 05 May 2026 with the possibility of extension up to six months. This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only.

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
