As Senior Lawyer - Specialist Services, you will provide expert legal advice across a broad range of litigation, dispute resolution, and administrative law matters affecting the University. Reporting to the Director, Legal Services - Specialist Services, you will support both Chancellery and Faculty clients, delivering high-quality, solution-focused legal support that helps manage institutional risk and reputation.
This is a senior-level role in the Legal and Risk team, working in a dynamic environment with significant scope for autonomy and leadership.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Delivering legal advice and managing pre-court, ADR, and formal proceedings across student, staff, third-party, regulatory and commercial disputes.
* Taking carriage of court and tribunal matters, including VCAT and handling subpoenas and related orders.
* Advising on technical and complex legal problems to support the University's strategic and operational needs.
* Drafting and negotiating legal documentation using clear, plain English.
* Supporting the team through mentoring, legal oversight, and collaborative problem-solving.
* Promoting best practice legal risk management and compliance aligned to University policies and frameworks.
You will be a great fit if you have:
* A minimum of six years post-qualification legal experience with a current Victorian practising certificate.
* Demonstrated experience in litigation, dispute resolution and administrative law (employment law experience desirable but not essential).
* Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication, and drafting skills.
* Strong judgment and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
* The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a values-driven environment.
