Your Opportunity

Family Preservation collaborates with families to mitigate the likelihood of children and youth entering out-of-home care. Employing diverse theories and frameworks encompassing child protection and development, the program engages with families and caregivers to foster constructive transformations, fostering secure and supportive environments for children.

Join our dedicated team in providing essential support to vulnerable children and families, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being. As part of our Family Preservation Service, you will work with families expecting a child or with at least one child under 17, facing challenges such as domestic violence, parental mental health issues, substance abuse, intellectual or learning disabilities, lack of parenting skills, or inadequate supervision. Your role will be pivotal in creating safe and nurturing environments, promoting positive change, and making a lasting impact on the lives of those in need.

Your key responsibilities will be to:- Maintain a caseload of families, using a strengths-based approach to support them.- Work with families and stakeholders to develop plans addressing various risks.- Provide support focused on parental vulnerabilities.- Deliver one-to-one structured and sustained support and skill development to parents in the home environment.- Assist families in accessing universal and specialist services within the local service system.- Provide relevant supported referrals and information in an effective and timely manner.- Conduct regular reviews with families and relevant parties to celebrate success and review case plans.- Work under the general direction of Mission Australia to ensure adherence to program guidelines and up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation.- Work in partnership with DCJ to engage families at risk of significant harm.- Create and update individualized case management files for all clients, maintaining accuracy and timeliness as per Mission Australia protocols.

Requirements for Success- Bachelor in the human services industry, or other appropriate qualifications/experience desirable.- Significant experience in child protection, restoration or out of home care.- Experience in case management and the delivery of living skills and/or parenting programs.- Understanding of issues facing vulnerable families and their children.- Demonstrated child protection knowledge base- Ability to work effectively in a team and within a multidisciplinary team environment- Strong collaborative skills, able to work cooperatively with colleagues and external stakeholders- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written- Proficient in making referrals to appropriate services and resources- Ability to engage and build rapport with families, even in challenging or resistant situations- Non-judgmental approach to working with diverse families and individuals- Excellent time management skills- Current NSW drivers' licence.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
