The STEPS Work Mates program provides long-term and personalised employment coaching to youth with a NDIS plan. STEPS Work Mates can help youth with a disability transition seamlessly from school into work through School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES).
School Leaver Employment Supports funding builds a participant's ability and confidence to enter the workforce. No matter where participants are in their employment journey, Work Mates can help every step of the way. It is an established program with a great reputation in the community.
The Position
Due to expansion of our Work Mates program across multiple regions, an exciting opportunity has become available for a Job Readiness Trainer to join the welcoming and supportive Cairns team. This role is tailor-made for someone enthusiastic and ready to build capacity, independence, and confidence in youth with disabilities transition to employment.
This is a casual role: 6-12 hours per week initially with capacity to increase.
Responsibilities
* Creating rapport with participants to uncover their goals.
* Helping participants work through personal barriers.
* Assessing individual strengths and teaching them to use these skills effectively.
* Coaching on job search techniques and creating resumes.
* Assisting youth with disabilities to develop social and life skills.
* Mastering networking skills to connect with potential employers.
* Keeping track of progress, maintaining confidential records, and providing reports.
The Successful Applicant
* Relevant qualification equivalent to a Certificate III with relevant previous experience
* Ideally someone with a community background - support coordinator / ex teacher / youth worker.
* Genuine passion and empathy for supporting young people with a disability - be their superhero
* An outgoing, positive, and compassionate personality.
* Enthusiasm for making a positive impact and unlocking potential.
* Aptitude to liaise with employers to analyse job requirements, workplace needs, providing support and guidance throughout.
* Creativity to think outside the box and make the training sessions person-centred.
* Capacity to complete administrative tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
