We are looking for an experienced IBMi Senior Engineer to join the team.
Responsibilities:
An experienced IBMi (iSeries) midrange-systems administrator with technical systems engineering knowledge. Capable of hands on approach for evaluating and working on detailed and diversified system implementations. Including, hardware infrastructure and OS software plus third party application upgrades. With a good understanding of the latest technology requirements within complex LAN/WAN and cloud environments. Must have very good analytical and troubleshooting skills with a strong desire to resolve complex issues.
The diversified role works with customers on IBMi (iSeries) midrange systems in partitioned environments. Together with technical customer staff and internal DXC Operations and other DXC Infrastructure Teams staff. Excellent communication skills are required to work and communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both onshore and offshore including all levels of management. Monitor/Maintain and backup IBMi production and disaster recovery partitions across two separate locations providing a high availability solution to meet customer SLA's
The day to day work involves working very closely with the customer to priortise different projects and BAU workloads. This involves regular meetings with the customers and internal DXC Teams. Working closely with the customer ARL and SDM.
BAU Support:
1. Provide expert-level support for our financial systems and trading platform hosted on IBMi (iSeries).
2. Provide expert level technology evaluation and implementation with recommendations via DXC Solutions Team.
3. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of the platform.
4. Monitor and review security and audit requirements per customer and internal requirements.
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve incidents and maintain service-level agreements (SLAs).
6. Collaborate with the customer to ensure backups are performed per service-level agreements (SLAs).
7. Collaborate with the customer to optimise and improve DR/HA requirements per service-level agreements (SLAs).
Replication Management:
8. Manage data replication processes to ensure data consistency and integrity across multiple systems and locations.
9. Implement and maintain replication strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.
Business User Interaction:
10. Interact directly with business users to understand their requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical solutions.
11. Provide updates to customer
12. Translate business needs into technical specifications and implement system enhancements accordingly.
Feature Design and Development:
13. Collaborate with the development team to design and develop new features and functionalities for the financial systems and trading platform.
14. Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
Performance Optimization:
15. Identify areas for system performance improvement and optimization.
16. Implement performance tuning strategies to enhance system efficiency and responsiveness.
Documentation:
17. Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
18. Ensure that documentation is up to date and accessible to the team.
Security and Audit Compliance:
19. Implement security best practices to safeguard sensitive financial data.
20. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards relevant to financial systems.
21. Work with Customers External auditors to validate security controls on a regular basis
22. Ensure security controls are maintained to audit requirements.
Training and Mentorship:
23. Provide training and mentorship to junior team members to enhance their IBMi (iSeries) skills and knowledge.
Skills Required
24. IBMi/iSeries Technical administration and support (ideally large server and multi-partition skills)
25. People management and project management experience.
26. Technical consulting and hosting services experience.
27. Experience with BRMS; VTL and remote SAN backup software skills. Eg. EMC Data Domain.
28. Experience in OS upgrades and migrations
29. Experience with network design and TCP/IP; DNS; Host Table Entries; FTP, email; LAN/WAN & cloud environments
30. Experience providing technical and engineering support to customers. May be required to do on-call support.
31. Experience providing technical consultation on current and proposed systems to other organisations and clients.
32. Experience performing routine repairs, maintenance and upgrades of existing systems using solutions in accordance with standard operating procedures
33. Experience with Service Now and Change Management Software.
34. Experience with PowerHA for IBMi. Including, flashcopy and SAN support.
35. Experience with MSF and SMTP for IBMi
36. Experience with HMC & VIO setup.
37. Experience working with SAN environments,
38. Experience with ACS; CL & SQL.
39. Experience with Navigator for I;
40. Experience with IBMi monitoring software and automation.
41. Experience with Security and vulnerability planning. Plus, Audit Compliance regulations.
42. Experience with Capacity Planning and reports.
43. Third party application support.
Qualifications:
44. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
45. Vast experience as an IBMi (iSeries) engineer in a complex financial systems environment.
46. IBM certifications, including but not limited to:
47. IBM Certified System Administrator - IBM i
48. IBM Certified Specialist - Power Systems Scale-Up Technical Sales
49. IBM Certified Specialist - Power Systems with POWER8 -v2
50. IBM Certified Specialist - PowerHA SystemMirror
51. Strong expertise in IBMi (iSeries) administration, including system configuration, performance tuning, and replication.
52. Proficiency in RPG, CL, SQL, and other relevant programming languages.
53. Experience with data replication tools and strategies.
54. Knowledge of financial industry regulations and compliance requirements.
55. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
56. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with business users and team members.
57. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
58. Experience with software development methodologies and tools is a plus.
