About the business and the role
D&T Hydraulics is a local family owned cylinder repair & manufacturing business. The company employs over 100 highly skilled employees from Boilermakers, Welders, Fitters, Machinists, Drafts people and TA's. This dedicated workforce is supported by technical, sales and support staff guaranteeing projects and the workforce is managed in a professional manner without compromising, quality, safety or the environment. We require a motivated & experienced Leading Hand Boilermaker to join our team.
We are highly reputable and boast a modern workshop with excellent working and pay conditions.
The Opportunity
The Boilermaker - Leading Hand will be responsible for the fabrication, installation and maintenance of hydraulic cylinders presented for repair with the purpose of driving quality and improvement. The successful candidate will be a technical guru who is deeply passionate about continuous improvement and has experience leading a team within advanced manufacturing environments.
Responsibilities:
* Assist Disassembly Supervisor in strip procedures of all Hydraulic cylinders where any form of welding or gouging is required
* Assist Assembly Supervisor in rectifying quality issues and completion of cylinders requiring weld after final assembly
* Assist Machining Supervisor in machining procedures to improve welding processes of all Hydraulic cylinders and repairs
* Assist Night Shift Supervisor in arranging tasks for the nightshift and maintaining the quality getting completed on the nightshift
* Actively contributes to workplace health and safety - reports incidents, works in a safe manner in accordance with D&T policy's and procedures
* Responsible for general fabrication, maintenance and repairs of hydraulic cylinders
* Carry out general boilermaking duties including the use of: welding (MIG, TIG and stick), cutting (friction, Oxy and Acetylene, and profile cutting), grinding, heat treatment and stress relieving of steels
* Accountable for ensuring that the plant, tools and equipment associated with the role are cleaned, maintained and operated in a safe and effective manner as required under relevant licences and workplace health and safety legislation
* Maximise production efficiency through teamwork, innovation and lean manufacturing principles
* Implement and drive 5S (sort, set, shine, standardize and sustain) in the boilermaker bays
* Control consumables
* Be responsible for equipment maintenance and calibration
* Assist the Welding Manager with the training of new Welders and Apprentices
* Produce, review and maintain weld process records/documents
* Sign off on qualification approvals
* QA/QC checks and sign off responsibilities
The Successful Applicant Must:
* Have experience in leading welding operations in a manufacturing environment
* Possess excellent safety, environmental, and quality management skills
* Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Be experienced in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement strategies
* Be able to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
* Be adaptable to changing priorities and capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously
